Transitional Housing Programs

Studies show that the most effective programs for homeless and at-risk veterans are community-based, nonprofit, “veterans helping veterans” groups. Programs that seem to work best is transitional housing with the camaraderie of living in structured, substance-free environments with fellow veterans who are succeeding at bettering themselves.

The Vet House

For Male Veterans

Vet House, located in Ballston Spa, New York is a transitional housing program for 14 homeless male veterans.

Staff provides case management and support services to help the veterans develop skills, secure employment or benefits to transition to independent living.

Vet Help has partnered with many other agencies to provide each veteran with assistance in the areas of employment, education, job training and any other issue the veteran needs assistance with.

Once ready for independent living, assistance is given with securing an apartment. Support services continue to help the veteran maintain housing.

The Guardian House

For Female Veterans

Guardian House, located in Ballston Spa, New York is just one of two supportive housing programs for homeless female veterans in New York State, and one of just eight in the entire United States.

Homeless women veterans face the same issues as the male veterans. In addition, a large percentage is living with the pain of Military Sexual Trauma.

With staff support the ladies work on their issues and when ready transition to a productive, independent life in our community.

To be eligible for these housing program an individual must provide a DD214 (release papers from the military) that shows their discharge was not dishonorable. In addition, they must be homeless, have zero to low income and must be willing to work on the issues that created the homeless situation.

The transitional Programs of VCHC provide this support while assisting each Veteran attain their goals to live a productive life in their Community.
